Keep your mind restricted and closed and nothing can get in. Let's face it, the idea that everything you know is right and correct at this very time is ludicrous. Nobody knows everything. Why not open your mind up so that truth can get in.

M$I think a free mind definitely promotes creativity. Even in the creative writing process, I was taught that you have to just write and not worry about grammatical errors until you are completely done creating so that your mind is not bogged down by the literal, only the imagination. I think a lot of creative people have to learn this trick. I also think it is a way to release tension, opening your mind and just concentrating on what is creatively going on in your mind takes away the pressures of the every day.
Sometimes however, an open and free mind doesn't come easily and we need a little direction on how to achieve that state. Here is a website that gives you 5 tips on how to have an open mind, http://www.sedonamethodcommunity.com/letting-go-articles/120-five-tips-open-your-mind-boost-creativity.html.
