What happens to stocks when bonds are rising?

What is the relationship between stocks and bonds in a recession? Do bonds or stocks do better during a recession? If bonds are up does that automatically mean stocks are down?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

When money moves out of stocks into bonds. Stocks go down, bonds go up. When money moves out of bonds into stocks, stocks go up. If you can artificially keep the interest rate low on bonds, stocks will stay higher.
