What good things can you think of to say about the Westboro Baptist Church?
What first comes to mind to me is what a fine and typical example of the true spirit of Christianity in general and Baptists in particular! However, I know many people somehow see clear distinctions between them and mainstream Christians. So, here is my question: what if anything is good about them?
Here are a few things that occur to me:
1. While many religious nuts commit violent crimes, they have not committed any violent crimes.
2.Neither do they plan, encourage, or otherwise contribute to the ghastly tragedies that they celebrate; but, rather, they simply claim God is punishing sinners and thank him for it.
3.So, it's a sticks and stones situation, they insult the nation but do nothing against it. They even obey the laws when laws are passed telling them to keep so many feet away etc. while demonstrating.
4.Their vile hatred is backed up by clear references to the bible. This clearly shows the bible in the light it ought to be seen.
5. They help demonstrate the vital importance of the USA constitution that protects free speech, freedom of religion, and political protests. In many countries, including almost all Islamic ones, they would be killed out of hand by mobs, if not the police. But, in the USA they may express themselves as they wish, as long as they neither commit or conspire to commit violent acts.
6. They help people, at least those who stop and think, to understand the Constitution and its key importance in protecting minorities, no matter how despised, or how deserving of being despised..
What can you add to this list?
