What good Horror movies have you seen? Recommend any?

I like horror movies and I've seen a bunch, Silent Hill, The Hills Have Eyes, Quarantine, and now it feels like I've run out of good ones. Can anyone suggest some good, modern horror movies (like not 90's slasher flicks please) that aren't all gore and brains and have a good story, but are also scary.

I am a film snob.
I am also a horror film snob.
With that being said... I find that a good horror movie comes along about every 10 years.

I recently was told to watch a new vampire movie called
Låt den rätte komma in (Let The Right One In)

Yes, it has subtitles, but if you can get past that... I found it to be surprisingly fresh and interesting.

I get tired of the same old bloody, crash, chomp, (scream) that comes out of Hollywood. I think you'll like this one my sweet Darkness!

You can catch a preview at their website

This was one of my favorites. I hate reading subtitles, but I watched this movie over and over again. GREAT movie!

My wfe laughed at me (cuase I tend to get a little TOO into scary movies) but I thought Quarantine was pretty dang good.

I'll admit to being disturbed by the movie and am a man enough to say I was kinda scared. Once it got going (as you know the first few minutes are kind of slow) it turned out to be pretty messed up. Slow, slow, slow, blah blah blah bla-POW!!!! Crazy messed up and blood and undead and govrenment coverups and there's some weirdo on the top floor conducting experiments...
I'm all in baby. All in.

I liked Quarantine and Haunting in Conneticut a bunch, I liked mirrors too, and I'm looking forward to seeing "The Stepfather". I watched the trailer this morning and it seemed very interesting. But check out my sources for some lists of future and present movies.

PS: Also check out "Last House on The Left"

If you are looking for a horror movie, then watch the complete SAW series and the The Texas Chain Saw Massacre .

1.
Saw (2004)
2.
Saw II (2005)
3.
Saw III (2006)
4.
Saw IV (2007)
5.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)
6.
Saw V (2008)
But these films are rated R by MPAA and there are also UNRATED editions which are rated NC-17. So be aware not to watch with kids around.

I am a big horror fan and do try to see most of them, although I do not like the fake stuff... more of the paranormal type. I will rate the ones I have seen on a scale of 1 to 10.
"Mirrors" - 5
"The Exorsisim of Emily Rose" - 10
"Rosemarys Baby" - 10
"The Amityville Horror" (Original version) - 10
"The Changeling" (George C.Scott - 1980) - 10+++++ but hard to find
"The Exorsist" - 10
"Frequency" - 10
There are alot more I have'nt seen but these are my pics so far. Most are older movies, but you can still find them.

These are my favorite horror movies of all time not in any particular order:

1. Jacob's Ladder - Probably my favorite out of all of these. The only gore in it is in the scene where his platoon is attacked.. and that's not even really gorey. Its about a guy who was in Vietnam and the Army decided it was going to use an experimental chemical because they thought it would improve their performance. The effects hurt them in the long run causing him and his other surviving platoon mates to hallucinate. You just have to watch it to get the real gist. It's crazy good.

2. Nosferatu (1922 silent B&W version)

3. Evil Dead

4. Jaws

5. Guinea Pig: Flowers of Flesh and Blood - This is one of the sickest movies ever made. I actually can't watch the whole thing in one sitting. I never covered my eyes for anything before, but I did for this. I thought I was going to vomit.

I actually enjoyed Prom Night - it was unpredictable at times and very suspenseful. Not very gory either...the plot didnt really "depend" on blood and guts to sell the movie, it was good enough on its own.

Also, I'm a big fan of zombie movies - but those are usually filled with blood & guts (it comes with the territory)...

I love horror movies but it's been a while since i've seen a good one that include a story line. If you are just into a horrible movie that is all blood and gore without a story line then I do not have a good suggestion for that. But it you are like me and wants to see a good well thought out movie alone with the horror part then I'd recommend Prom Night.

Plot
"In Bridgeport, the deranged high school teacher Richard Fenton is obsessed by the teenager student Donna Keppel; she witnesses him murder her family to stay with her, but Richard is arrested and sent to prison for life. Three years later, the traumatized Donna is feeling better but is still under psychological treatment and taking pills. On her prom night, she goes with her boyfriend Bobby and two couples of friends to the Pacific Grad Hotel for the party. But the psychopath Richard has escaped from prison and is lodged in the same floor in the hotel chasing Donna, stabbing her friends and staff of the hotel that cross his path."

I enjoyed it and I was getting tired of bad horror movies at times. My friends like it as well.

I'm more into older horror movies and I have a few favorites; like:

VILLAGE OF THE DAMNED((a whole town blacks out one day and awaken to find about a dozen of they're women mysteriously pregnant. The children turn out being the spawns of satan))

ROSEMARY'S BABY((a pregnant woman is taken away by her husband to a sutible environment to raise they're child; where a pretty creepy doctor and strange houseguest's makes her think that the child she's carrying is something more than human))

THE HOWLING ((A reporter takes a vacation with her husband after a psycho; who is also linked to the town they vacation at, tries to kill her. Once at the retreat in the town she finds out that it's filled with werewolves))

NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET((the first one. I'm sure everyone knows what that is about lol))

PUMPKIN HEAD(THE FIRST ONE((A group of teenagers accidentally kill a shop owners son. There is a myth that an old witch lives deep in the woods who can bring people back to life, He takes his son there and the witch brings his son back but he is no longer who he had known him to be, instead a twisted, grotesque monster called 'Pumpkin Head' has been born seeking revenge against it's death))

EVIL DEAD((all of these are pretty kick ass))

and someone's already mentioned JACOB'S LADDER but it is a very very very good movie that I recommend everyone watch.

And if I had to chose a newer horror movie i would defiantly say LET THE RIGHT ONE IN. Stunning and creative movie.
