What fruits/veggies/herbs can I plant Memorial Day weekend?

I am just getting around to getting my garden ready. What can I plant this weekend? Is it too late to plant most things? What vegetables/fruits are going to grow best if I get some plants in Late May?

Some additional information:

Zone 5
Plot of land is 5 feet by 10 feet
2/3 of the garden Gets 8+ hrs of full sunlight, but in late morning to evening. About a third of the area gets much more shade/partial sun.
Soil is fairly good, has a lot of clay in it, slopes downward so drainage is pretty good.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

You have lots of time left to grow some short season veggies and herbs.

Here is what I would plant (I live in Zone 5 too):

First row:

3 Patio tomatoes (mix up the varieties so they bear fruit at stagger times)
1 cherry tomato
A few pepper plants (I'd buy 4 inch pots since you're starting a bit late)
1 zucchini squash (plant this one more toward the shady end and give it lots of room--it will get huge)

Second row:

Plant seeds according to package directions. Choose varieties that come to maturity in 45-60 days, like:

Green beans (bush beans are easy and don't need staking--Blue Lake is a heavy producer)
Swiss chard ('Rainbow lights' has beautiful multicolored stems)
Collards (if you like them)
Miniature pumpkin (put this behind the zucchini, just one mound--give it room to ramble outside the bed)
carrots and radishes (tuck these in anywhere--you could even make a third row of them, they don't take much space)

Then, around the edges, tuck in your herbs with some marigolds to keep the bunnies away:

Parsley (buy small plants, not seeds)
Mint
Lemon balm
Chives

You will have more seeds than you actually need, but you can replant the carrots and radishes after you harvest the first batch--you'll have time for two crops, as they can grow in fairly cold weather.

Most of all, have fun! It isn't nuclear physics, it's just a vegetable garden. Some things will grow better than others, but if you keep it watered and weeded (you can mulch everything and conserve some water than way), you'll have home grown stuff to eat by mid-July.

There is not enough information to answer your question :(

Where do you live?

How much room do you have?

What is your soil like?

What herbs & Veggies do you enjoy?

I am in CT I purchased rich soil which I filled over gravely soil, I have a small plot 5x5, I will be planting my Tomatoes and my Basil this weekend. ^_^

By jove, you're right! I've added more info.

I will be planting tomatoes, basil and lots of herbs, but I'm looking for other veggies or fruits to plant. I like pretty much everything, except perhaps okra.
