What formula is used for calculating sales of comedy movies?
In the entertainment business, do they compare dramas and comedies when tracking ticket sales or is each genre judged alone? Does humor sell movie tickets as well as drama?

I wouldn't say they compare ticket sales between dramas and comedy because it's apples and oranges. Yes, they're both fruit, but they're different. If they did compare the two genres we would be seeing a lot more Little Fockers and a lot less The King's Speech. They would be riding the ridiculous world of sequels and leaving out what film truly is. Even a bad comedy will make money. There is a reason why the world (me included) laughs hysterically at kids hitting their father in the privates with a whiffle ball bat. We are easily amused and the entertainment industry knows that, they take advantage of that, and they exploit that. Luckily, they aren't giving up on the art, and the craft of not only acting, but writing directing, and overall film making.
