I no longer trust mainstream American news media sources for serious, domestic and international political news. Actually, I lost confidence in our media when I spent three years living abroad and became aware of the news the rest of the world was aware of but aboout which our media remained silent. During my lifetime the major media companies have changes form independent companies to subsidiaries of American-based, multi-national, defense-manufacturing corporations which profit from war and weapons manufacturing.

Now to answer your question: If you mean foreign correspondents (as opposed to news reporters who are nor reporting from within the U.S.A. or who are not American by birth):
Amy Goodman of "Democracy Now" who was in East Timor during the violent coup/genocide. She and Jeremy Scale, another great reporter were arrested together by government forces there. I recall that Amy suffered beatings while imprisoned. Robert Fisk, a British reporter of international stature who also reports on international news is my pick for best non-America foreign news correspondent. Truly independent investigative journalism is a “lost art” in this age of “infotainment” (at least as see in U.S. mainstream media outlets).
I heard Amy Goodman speak in Berkeley, CA and recommend attending one of her events to anyone disenchanted with corporate media interested in alternative sources of news.
