Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

As a mom of four who has grown up in a country with many superstitious beliefs, the foods that I know that I should avoid are the:
- Cassava – any food that has cassava ingredient should be avoided esp. if the mother who has just given birth is not 100% healthy. In fact, even if you only have recovered from fever, it is a no-no to eat it. I once tried it to see if it’s really true but I found out it is well maybe it is. I cannot find a scientific explanation for it.
- Fishes that bleeds a lot including milkfish. I do not know exactly the English names for those fishes but if you are here in our country the Philippines, you can ask the fish vendors which fish are right for those mothers who have just given birth and which to avoid. They will tell you.
- For those mothers who have given birth and who have suffered from beriberi, chicken is a no-no too. I don’t know but we’re used to avoiding it whenever we notice that we have beriberi.
- Breastfeeding mothers should avoid highly acidic and salty foods and drinks that are caffeine-containing drinks like coffee, etc.
- Junk foods - We all know that it's unhealthy for everyone.
There are more foods that are said to be avoided but I think if you feel good and you’re used to eating them then I guess it is just fine as we differ in culture. Your doctor of course is the best source of advice so you ask him/her. Your diet also should fit to your condition and if what you have is C-section or normal delivery.
