There is a long list of foods that can cause heartburn, although these foods may not cause heartburn for everyone. It varies from person to person. However, spicy and rich foods are typically heartburn triggers.

Milk, soda water, fresh pineapple, yogurt and rice are good home remedies for heartburn.

Heartburn is a burning sensation that is felt in the chest due to an overproduction of hydrochloric acid in the stomach. Eating certain foods can usually bring it on. Foods that cause heartburn include fried foods, spicy foods, fatty foods and acidic foods, such as orange juice, tomato sauce and ketchup.

Eating smaller meals, avoiding foods that trigger the condition and taking over-the-counter and prescribed medications, such as Tums, Pepcid and Zantac, can prevent heartburn.

Natural remedies such as licorice root can heal irritated tissues in the esophagus and promote overall stomach health. Licorice root comes in chewable capsules available at most health food stores. Also, mixing two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar in water seems to quell raging heartburn symptoms. The acidic vinegar neutralizes the acidic stomach juices to help promote proper digestion.
