What foods are suggested for those who have had the Lap Band surgery?

I am so sick of hearing my mom choking on everything she tries to eat. She had the lap band done a year and a half ago and she goes through this every day. She tries to put extra dressings and condiments on her food to help them slide down but she still chokes. You cannot through up with the lap band or you will most likely have to have emergency surgery...

Are there any websites with suggestions on what to eat? The best way to eat things?

I feel horrible that she is having a hard time and her band isn't too tight or too loose she has checked with her surgeon...I want to find some way to help her out...I just have no idea where to look for the best information..

Any help is much appreciated!

Thanks!

After lap band surgery, in order for the body to remain healthy and function well, it is important to eat foods that are high in protein and nutritional content.
Be sure that your mother's diet include:
1. selected meats, fish, skinless poultry, eggs ( low fat protein foods)
2. Include on her diet fruits and vegetables.
3. Breads and cereals, preferably organic which are more healthy
4. Foods that are rich in calcium like dairy products (cheese, milk that are low in fat or nonfat)
5. Foods that contains heart-healthy fats.

You can advise your mom to:
1. Have 3 meals a day and avoid taking snacks.
2. To eat only solid foods at mealtime.
3. Remind her to eat slowly and to thoroughly chew the food about 15-20 times a bite for this will help to create the feeling of fullness and for the food to avoid getting stuck in the lap band pouch.
4. Advise her to stop eating when she feels full because this can cause in pain, nausea and vomiting and can stretch the lap band pouch.
5. Don't let her drink while eating for this will wash down the food and she will not reach the feeling of fullness. Don't let her drink for 30-45 min before and after meals.

These are the drinks that is recommended for those who had lap band surgery:
1. water, 6-8 cups a day.
2. low-calorie, non carbonated liquids (artificially flavored drinks, tea, & black coffee)
