What food did you hate as a kid but love now?

I remember taking a small sip of beer when I was around 12 and I thought it was the most disgusting thing in the world. Now, my motto is "the darker and stronger, the better". My wife used to abhor coffee and mushrooms, but now she fiends for both of them! So, what's your version of the story?

Beets. Well, actually, that's not entirely true.

When I was an infant, still on baby food, I (apparently) loooved beets, according to my mum.

As an adolescent and teenager, I thought them rather disgusting, the pickled bright purple blots on an otherwise delicious greek salad.

Now that I'm an adult, I've come back around to beets. Especially when they are fresh from the garden, and served with the beet greens. I love them roasted, steamed, or boiled, with just a little bit of salt and pepper.

I'm still iffy on pickled beets, but at least now I don't pick them out of my salad.

When I was a child I hated spinach. I remember my Dad buying spinach and telling my brother "If you want to be strong like Popeye the Sailor Man" he needed to eat the spinach. Lucky for me, I didn't want to be strong (hehe) but my brother did and I would sit and watch his face while he ate it. (As a sister, that was joy in itself- pesky sister, I was.) Now one of my best dishes I make has spinach in it, and my kids LOVE it as well. It is called spinach Tortellini. Who would have dreamed I would love spinach!

(Great question, made me giggle!)

As a child I hated spaghetti. There was no way I would eat those stringy red noodles that were so hard to wind around a fork and actually make it to my mouth! I even went so far as to rename it "messaghetti". When Mom cooked a spaghetti dinner, I only ate the meatballs. Things have sure changed. I love whole wheat spaghetti but no longer eat meatballs.
