What films from this past decade most successfully presented a "dieselpunk" aesthetic?

I love this style. Would love to see videos and/or pics from any films you choose to mention :-)

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

You know I don't get to see many movies but I do play more than my fair share of video games and the newer generation of games have produced many that are very close to what we could call interactive films. I might be stretching the parameters of this question when I suggest the PS3 video game called InFamous.

Cole is the main character and to say the least he has some pretty sweet superpowers to use for with good or evil but more to the point of this response, this video game is an interactive film noir of sorts and I think represents a quality example of modern "dieselpunk".

Have a look at InFamous below and as IGN would say "Lick a battery and come find out if this game rocks."

Beautiful! And definitely a strong example of dieselpunk...

I'm pretty unfamiliar with video games, but the combination of this fabulous visual style + the promise of an Amon Tobin soundtrack tempt me to check this one out :-)

I think you would love the film noir genera, if you have netflix you can actually search by the category fim noir. it is that very dark dirty grity look while at the same time being smooth and cool, kind of d**k tracy. The mid 1940s was they hay-day of film noir. There has been a recent resurgence among some comic book type themed movies if you are interested in that type of storyline. The maltese falcon is a classic. Also you will probably love the movie Delicateson and the other one by the same director, city of lost children. Cool stuff. I love streaming the old Humphrey Bogart movies with all of the purty dames and the pin ups from that era.

@tboz...Thanks for your suggestions! Yes, I'm also a fan of noir, and those old films are definitely a central inspiration for contemporary dieselpunk style. And pretty much anything directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet (director of City of Lost Children) is awesome---my all time favorite of his is Amelie :-)
