M$AIDS is an immune deficiency syndrome that is the final stage of having the HIV Virus and once a person has this immune deficiency they often contract opportunistic infections as a result of their deficient immune systems and these infections are the ones that really do the killing. HIV just opens the door for AIDS and then the door is opened for several types of deadly opportunistic infections that can and do kill people.

M$So, if someone pushed me out of a window and I fell 5 stories and died, would you say gravity killed me, the pavement whose reaction forces caused cardiac arrest, the person who pushed me, or whatever course of events which eventually led to me standing there at that instant?
Or, would you very simply say "the person who pushed me" killed me?
You so correct buddawiggi i remember we had a presentation at work about this and the guy stated it was the infections that kills the victim.
I only have one example. My mother died of small cell neuro-endocrine system cancer in 2006 and she had lived with these cancers for 12 years. All throughout her time with these cancers she had to go through near constant chemo therapy treatments and these treatments *severely* weakened her immune system... so mush so she virtually lived in a bubble during flu season as a single flu virus or other respiratory infection would have killed her so we were always first in line for flu shots.
Now if she had caught influenza and died from that infection what would you say killed her? In my eyes and the eyes of her physicians it would have been the flu that did the actual killing.
But, I know what you're saying is, strictly speaking, true. The coroner's who write up reports for people who succumb from the disease say that they "died of AIDS related complications," not AIDS itself. There's a specific type of pneumonia that is the most common cause of death.
