What factors you consider before buying a piece of dismond?

I do not buy diamonds personally, but if I was going to buy I would consider these things, in this order.
1) Is this diamond certified a conflict free diamond.
2) If question one is a yes, then I would consider the cut. I prefer the marquise cut the best. If I was buying it for someone else--I'd take their preference into consideration.
3) Then I would personally inspect the diamond for clarity and flaws verses the cost.
4) I would find out the warranty information and if the diamond would be certified, and/or if later the diamond could be traded up.
