Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Any exercise that gets your heart rate up into your target zone for about 30 minutes is great for the cardiovasculr system. The way to figure out your target heart rate is to take 220 an subtract your age from it. Then take 60% and 80% of that number and that is the rate you want your heart to get to while exercising. I would suggest staying near the lower range if you aren't used to exercising. Also, make sure to ask your doctor if the exercise you choose is right for you.

For someone 40 years of age, you take 220 minus 40 to get 180. Then take 60 percent of that number to get 108 and 80 percent of 180 to get 144. So while exercising aim for the heart rate to be between 108 and 144.

As for what kind of exercises are good, walking is great, either outdoors, in a mall or on a treadmill. Riding a bike, as you suggested is good. Also good is water aerobics if you have access to a pool. Even dancing is good if you enjoy that. Any activity that gets the heartrate up is good.

Making your heart stronger and healthier can be done as easily as running in place for about 20 minutes 3 x"s a time a week. You can also do a brisk walk, intermediate swimming, bowling once a week managing your stress, and quitting smoking can alao help in the prepareation of your heart surgery.

Any rhythmic activity, such as walking, running, cycling, swimming etc., that gets your heart rate up is good exercise for making your heart stronger and faster. It is better to choose one that you enjoy most. Whatever the exercise you do, do it regularly.

The best and easiest type of cardio workout to engage in is treadmill, cycling, or swimming. There are charts available on the American Heart Association website that will give you guidelines based on your age, weight and physical condition. Establish your target heart rate using these tools, then start plugging away.
In addition, and just as importantly, moderate your diet to include more fish, less red meat, more vegetables and fruit. Stay away from soda, dairy, and breads, and foods high in sugar. A good general guideline for red meat consumption is a 4 ounce portion once every two weeks.Glamour Smile
