What exactly is the Hindenburg Omen? Do you believe in it?
I've been reading a good deal today about something known as the "Hindenburg Omen," and trying to determine if the idea actually has any merit. Supposedly, the Hindenburg Omen (a reference to the 1937 Hindenburg disaster) can be used to predict the next big stock market crash. Can such things actually be predicted? What were the precursors to other major stock market crashes? Are there sure signs to look for?

The Hindenburg Omen is a series of 5 indicators that can herald a slump, downturn or crash. To be an actual predecessor of a problem there must be at least 2 Hindenburg Omens withing 36 days. Since 1985 there have been many of these indicators that have happened and of the ones that occurred %25 have presaged a stock market problem but all of the market downturns have been presaged by these omens. The prediction is that if at least 2 occur within the 36 day period than a downturn of some degree will probably occur within 120 days. The current series of indicators has happened within 2 days of each other.
