What exactly does Star Wars Day consist of? Is it a worldwide event?

I have personally never heard of Star Wars day. So I am wondering, when was this day started, and by whom? Does it consist of conventions worldwide? Or is it mainly in one town, and fans just flock to that specific town to join in the festivities? What kinds of events are held on Star Wars Day? Is it normally a one day event, or can the celebration last for a few days? Is it mandatory for attendees to dress up as Star Wars Characters? Do special guests attend events such as actors or actresses from the movies? Any and all information is much appreciated!

Star Wars Day could refer to one of several dates or events that honors or involve Star Wars. This day is also considered unofficial holiday by Star Wars fans in celebrating Star Was Culture and remember the movie.

May 4th is also called Star Wars day because of the famous and common pun spoken for this particular day. The phrase "May the Force be with you" is a popular quote often spoken in the Star War movies. Star War fans commonly say "May the fourth be with you" on this day.

There were efforts to start a Jediism Church on May 4 and as its Star Wars Day. There is no religion-supporting organization that promotes May 4 as Star Wars Day apart from the Church of Jediism.

In 2005, the TV Channel N24, a German news TV interviewed George Lucas and asked him to say his famous sentence, "May the Force be with you." The translator simultaneously translated it in German: "Am 4. Mai sind wir bei Ihnen". which is "We are with you on May 4. This was also captured by comedy show TV Total and was aired on May 18, 2005.
