What ever happened to robot dogs like the Sony Aibo? Did they not gain the popularity of dogs? Why would someone buy a real dog vs. Aibo?

A real dog is more useful than the robot dogs. Since SONY stopped production of all AIBO models in 2006, the limited number of them in the world makes them a rare and rewarding collector’s item.
Initially the demands were there . In order to cut it's costs Sony decided to stop producing AIbo. One more reason may be the high cost of it - $2000 while compared to cheaper varieties.
An interesting piece of info which i studied supports Aibo's usage preference. But personally i prefer real dogs.
