What effects do you think will result from the Gulf Coast oil spill?

http://news.yahoo.com/s//ap/20100502/ap_on_bi_ge/us_gulf_oil_spill

The Valdez oil spill altered the southern coast of Alaska's ecosystem irreparably. What major effects on the Gulf Coast do you think the newer spill will cause?

If they don't get this well capped soon, it will ruin the entire fishing industry in the Gulf of Mexico, plus kill wildlife in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida...and maybe even Mexico. This has the potential to be the worst ecological catastrophe in American history, much worse than the Valdez. If the slick reaches Florida's coastline, we're talking billions upon billions of lost dollars from fishing and tourism alone. Florida's Gulf Coast, in miles, almost measure the same as the entire rest of the Gulf Coast combined. Species will probably become extinct, such as Gulf Shrimp and maybe even Manatees. Forget ever harvesting shellfish from the coastline again. I can't imagine the fish kills, and there are literally millions of birds that nest here every winter that will be affected, and that's not including the millions who live here all year around.

Hurricane season is just around the corner, and last year was a quiet year, which usually means this will be a bad one. The storms will push the oil in all directions. I dread seeing our beautiful white gulf sands turning black.

There is enough oil in that well to contaminate the entire Gulf, so Mexico could even be affected. There is no way this will be anything less than one of the worst spills in history.

I doubt anyone will be yelling "drill, baby, drill" after this.

They have already said that fishing jobs are being affected, animals are being killed and everything is being affected by this. They are comparing the catastrophe of this to Katrina.

The same as Valdez only across more States. The fishing, tourism, restaurant, housing, food industry and all aspects of wildlife will be affected for many decades. This will also raise costs for things across the Country.
