One of the glaring effects of the 2010 Hurricane season on the the BP Oil Spill cleanup would be the delay in the mopping up efforts by concerned Federal authorities. "A storm could impose delays from a few days to several weeks on efforts to contain the oil spewing from the blowout or on efforts to drill relief wells." Thus allowing more days and weeks for the oil spill to the Gulf of Mexico and beyond.

With regards to the contaminated water there's a predictable chance that the impending summer winds and tides will bring the oil at the coasts of the affected States. With regards to the hurricanes, the worst scenario is that if it "makes landfall with the oil so close to the coast, some surface oil could be driven inland by a storm's surge. Inside the marsh, waves would not be intense enough to break up oil into tiny droplets."

The landfall of sea water containing oil slick will lead to another layer in the marshlands termed as "oil-bearing sediment" that will cover the "oil-bearing sediment."

According to the article referenced to in the Citrus County Chronicle below, it is estimated that by August 1st officials predict - by conservative estimates - that there could be upward of 51 million gallons of oil in the Gulf - 5 times greater than the GREATEST oil disaster from the Exxon Valdez spill in Alaska in 1989, which, by the way still has not been completely cleaned up. Some experts at Florida State University say that there are already more than that there now. With that volume of oil - even over thousands of square miles of water - the churning of the surf will create oil foam that will stick to EVERYTHING it comes in contact with thereby killing large swaths of marsh reeds and grasses that act as a buffer in absorbing a great deal of the storms impact. This disaster is being minimized by the authorities and many of us will never live to see the recovery of its effects because once the oil gets into the grassy wetlands it will be virtually impossible to completely clean up.

So pretty much the Everglades will die.
I'm ridiculously sad now. I can't even tell you how sad this makes me.
