What does the magnitude of an earth mean? What is the wave height of a 6.3 magnitude quake?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

The Richter scale assigns a single number to quantify the amount of seismic energy released by an earthquake. It is a base-10 logarithmic scale: an earthquake that measures 5.0 on the Richter scale has a shaking amplitude 10 times larger than one that measures 4.0.

Based on my math a 6.3 would have a waveheight of 2 meters.

10^6.3 = 1 995 262.31 microns = 1.99526231 meters
