Medically known as koilonychia, spooning of the fingernails is usually one of the signs of anemia which may be related to deficiency of iron. There are other causes of anemia. Other causes may include hemochromatosis, SLE, exposure to solvents that are petroleum based, trauma, Raynaud’s disease, SLE, trauma, or nail-patella syndrome. See your doctor to find out the most likely cause if it doesn't seem evident to you.
