What does Semper Fi mean?

Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

"Semper Fidelis" is Latin for "Always Faithful." Well known in the USA as the motto of the United States Marine Corps, this phrase, often shortened to "Semper Fi" (/ˌsɛmpər ˈfаɪ/) in Marine contexts, has served as a slogan for many families and entities, in many countries, dating at least as far back as the 14th century. Within the groups below, users are listed in chronological order according to when they are believed to have adopted the motto; however, in many cases dates of adoption are not well established.

"The motto of the Marine Corps is Semper Fidelis, Latin for "always faithful". Until 1871 it was "First to Fight", a motto that still applies. Through the years, Marines have shortened it to Semper Fi, and "Semper Fi, Mac" is the universal
Marine Greeting."

Semper Fidelis (Semper Fi for short), is phrase taken from latin that means always faithful. The word fidelis in the phrase comes from the latin verb fidelere, or to be faithful. In the conjugation fidelis, it would mean he/she/it is faithful, so semper fidelis most literally would mean he/she is always faithful.
