What does MBA stand for?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

MBA stands for Masters of Business Administration. It's a post graduate degree that originated in the United States in the late 19th century. The program is designed to introduce students areas of business such as marketing, accounting, human resources, etc. Some school programs all students to select single or several areas of concentration. When doing so, a student will have approximately one third of their course load on that particular subject.

There are several type of MBA programs available. The two year program typically takes two years to complete, the semesters starting in late August and ending in May. Accelerated MBA is similar to the two year program without the break between May and August and more intensive coursework. Part time MBA programs offer classes in the evenings and weekends. Typically the program will take three years to complete. The executive MBA program allows working professionals to earn their degree in two years and continue to work full time. Another program is the distance learning programs held online.

MBA stands for Masters of Business Administration. This degree is usually earned after completing an undergraduate bachelor’s degree in business administration or a BBA. Often times, graduate business programs will admit students who have other majors, but have at least 42 eligible credits in business courses from accredited colleges and universities. The MBA degree is a composite 36 credit hours degree (12 courses) that involves a student taking several courses. These courses are:
3 credits in Marketing
3 Credits in Corporate Finance
3 credits in Managerial Accounting
3 credits in Business Logistics
3 credits in Business Strategy
3 Credits in Quantitative Methods (Statistics)
3 credits in Financial Economics/Managerial Economics
3 credits in Global Economy/International Business
3 credits in Technology and Innovation (some technology related course)
3 credits in Organizational Management
3 credits in Risk Management
The remaining 3 credits are an elective. Additionally, graduate business programs require students to take a comprehensive examination prior to graduation. Currently, Wharton School of Business, Harvard Business School, and MIT Sloan School are the best MBA programs in the country.
