Next time you fill up the fuel tank, add a bottle of Chevron Techron Concentrate Plus to the tank. This additive has the ability to clean the fuel level sensor in the tank, and often times the sensor is just dirty. So give it a shot, it has fixed quite a few of these issues for me and it's very inexpensive.
If it doesn't work then you'll need to have it diagnosed.

M$I found these guide helpful on troubleshooting your gas gauge.
1. Double check to make sure the wire and connections are clean, secure, and free of corrosion.
2. You can check the fuel gauge fuse, if the gauge's indicator stays on empty when you turn on your ignition. If the fuse is OK, join the sending unit connector to ground and replace the sending unit if the gauge indicator moves to the full line.
3. Located the terminal and ground it. You will find this at the back of the fuel gauge with a jumper wire if the indicator is not moving. If it moves, try replacing the wire between the fuel gauge and sending unit. A poor ground is usually responsible for fuel gauge problems.
4. Then release the wire that connects to the fuel's tank's sending unit. Make sure by checking it that there is the insulation is not worn for this will permit wire contact to the body or frame. A reading on the fuel gauge more or less indicates a problem with the tank unit and not the wiring.
