What does everyone think of the Playstation 3 Slim? Personally, I think it is a great idea to make it smaller and having a 120GB HDD is a +.

Tip for best answer: M$0.30

it is a great idea for sony to make a slim version. one of the main reasons would be the fact you would have a more sleek version which means more space. the original was very bulky compared to the two rival video game consoles(wii, xbox 360)."The new slim version also consumes 34 percent less power and takes up 32 percent less space" (information obtain from http://playstation3slim.com/). the $299 price would be a welcome sight for those gamers who couldn't afford the pricey system when it was first release(original playstation 3 price $600). the new system is backward compatible which will allow gamers to play their previous ps 2 games. this would also give sony the opportunity to gain more market on its competitors after having a very bad start with the lauching of the system and not having the stellar sales it usually gets from its gaming consoles.

Sorry, I wish it was true. :(

Backward compatibility is gone.... /cry/

Can't argue with the rest of your info though. It's what I've been waiting for. I still play the PS2 (no Wii or XBox).

I think the only thing that will drive sales is the price reduction.

The lower power consumption is nice. But how many green PS3 gamers are there?

Personally, I wish that Sony would have put the money into refining the software. A slim PS3 is nice and all... but a PS3 with more of the kinks worked out is even better.

I think this is a great move. One that follows in the footsteps of earlier Playstations which all got smaller as they aged (if only people did that !)
The new slim is smaller, quieter, more energy efficient and boasts a good sized HD.

Ok backwards compatibility has gone, but this was always going to happen at some point. Its always a shock when it does, but you cannot honestly expect Sony to continually support an older platform as it updates the current console to be more in in keeping with the current market needs - smaller, cheaper, better value and using a lot less power.

For a lot of people this will be exaclty what they will be looking for..

The PS3 slim has been a long time coming, and I think it'll attract a ton of new users. I am an owner of the 60GB PS3. I love the backwards compatibility, ability to install Linux, and once it comes in the mail, I plan to upgrade my HDD to 320GB. So, I won't have a huge desire to switch over, but I can see it being much more appealing than tracking down the PS3 Fat.

I absolutely love the design. It's about a controller and a half long and maybe two controllers wide. That is just impressive, and the price isn't too bad for what you get.

It sounds great to me, the best part is the slimmer price. Sounds like you don't give anything up... just the same functionallity in a bit smaller package and better price.
