Just like the title asks, What does Easter mean to you?

(prefer a little more then the religious aspect, looking for personal meaning/traditions/ and insights)

It means that the Goddess Easter is bringing in the Spring again! And that her hare (commonly called a bunny) is hopping around delivering bright, spring colored eggs - often made of candy.

What Easter Means to Me

When I was growing up Easter meant time with the family, dinner, easter egg hunts, ham, deviled eggs, pea and celery salad, going to grandmas, and having my dad say grace. It was about getting up early and going to a sunrise service, wearing your best dress clothes and having grandma take Polaroids of us. It was about remembering that Christ died and rose again, singing "Up from the grave he arose" and all of the hymns you only sing around that time of year. It was about spring and the hope of things to come as the earth comes out of its winter sleep.

Now it is still about many of those things for me. Only now I am dad and I don't live so close to home, so its about my children and close friends. About hiding the eggs instead of finding them, and filling them instead of emptying (ok if I am honest, I still find them and let my wife hide them). We buy the girls pretty dresses and hats and the boy get dressed up in suits. We get together with friends and enjoy the hope of things to come.

But mostly what Easter means to me is "hope". Much like Thanksgiving is the time we reflect on a year gone past and give thanks, Easter is the time we reflect on the Hope of things to come and rejoice. Its not about being religious for me, but about the glory of a risen Saviour and the hope that this brings to me in a personal way! Not hope like "Gee I hope it doesn't rain today" but the hope that drives each person everyday. The hope of something promised to me. Like the hope that my daughter has each year on her birthday, knowing that since we share the same birthday that she and I will go out for breakfast to celebrate together. I have the hope of the promise of Easter. Easter means no death! I have the hope that no matter what happened yesterday, will happen today, or might happen tomorrow, its only a moment in what will be a glorious eternity with a real and personal God who loves me beyond all measure.

Thank you for this question and for allowing me the opportunity to express what Easter really means to me. Here is a video from a Veggie Tales movie called "An Easter Carol" This really sums up what Easter means to me.

For me it is the Renewal of the gift that was provided when Jesus rose from the grave because he died for my sins. that is my personal belief.

I also enjoy the Easter baskets and the flowers and the family time together.

It means a time to yield down in life and remember that christ died and has risen, so that all of our sins will be forgiven. It means do not take life and the people around you, families, friends, neighbors, strangers for granted. It's a celebration with the entire world to be at peace with your self, as for the kids eggs means to reborn again and chocolate means sweet and innocent.

Easter is the spring equinox celebration. A time to celebrate life and renewal. Good food, good people, and excess as spring is the time that every thing starts to look up. (modernly there's more work in the summer, in old times it meant new harvests.)

Easter to me is not some pleasant ritual that is outside myself, like watching a movie. I'm not into rituals--oh, I can enjoy them, but they're just rituals.

So, conversely, Easter to me is very personal. I've never gone to a church where there was a big ritual, but instead original, fresh ways of celebrating Christ's death and rebirth. It always feels like homecoming, where you have a group of friends waiting for you and you know you're going to have a good time.

Then the whole Easter Bunny aspect is separate. When I was a kid it was all about candy and that it was finally warm enough in my area to go outside to play. And now, as a parent, it's fun to watch my kids, especially when they're little and keep walking by an egg I can see plain as day. Or when they're a little older and the eggs are hidden pretty well, to see if they can figure it out. Or to see if anyone is going to let me have some licorice jelly beans this year.

It's also about family. My folks live too far away now, so we have a big family dinner with my in-laws, followed by a huge egg hunt. Before anyone had kids it was an adult Easter Egg hunt, with eggs hidden all kinds of improbable places, like in the gutters on the second-story roof or inside the exhaust pipes of our cars, hidden *after* we'd arrived! Now there are a bunch of kids, but some are now young teens so the hiding places are getting harder. Then the kids play and the adults sit around and talk and play games for hours.

Hi

Easter is good and best religious as well as joy spreading day after Christmas and New year. Its the time when the God was reborn and its the day that makes all our christian community to spread the faith that God is among us and he will be with us for ever.
Its the day that I and my parents enjoy by giving the food and clothes to the needy.
We gather together and do as much as help as we can do from our side to others.

A great day an enjoyable day.

Easter is a celebration of the day Jesus turned into a giant rabbit and started laying eggs. People were so shocked by a man-sized rabbit that laid eggs that they started coloring the eggs, to disguise them from the Romans. But Jesus was angry at their betrayal, so he hid the eggs from them, forcing the people to find them, if they didn't want their homes to smell like rotten eggs. Then Jesus died on the cross so humans could have chocolate bunnies, and when his side was penetrated, jelly beans fell to the ground.

It's something like that ^_~

For me, Easter is about family, food, and maybe celebrating the spring. All of the traditions are so absolutely ridiculous that I don't give them any more value than the pleasant memories from childhood.

Easter used to be a very religious holiday for me. The day that Jesus rose from the grave. To me now, it means the rebirth of a new year, spring has sprung, rain on the way and flowers and greenery will be pretty soon. I'm not much into the Easter bunny but I do enjoy that when Easter comes I know spring is generally on the way. With that will come our area's rain, thunderstorms and probably a few tornadoes and I do love thunderstorms! :-)

It used to have a religious meaning to me when I was a Christian. Now it's just a long awaited holiday when I spend my time to meet my friends and to play computer games. No work this weekend! I just came home from a church to accompany my parents. Although I dont like going to church, going twice a year with them will help shut them up about my absence from church for the rest of the year.

"On the third day He rose again in fulfillment of the scriptures." (Nicene Creed, 325 C.E.)

"We bring you the good news that what God promised to the fathers, this day he has fulfilled to us their children by raising Jesus." (Acts 13:32-33)

Christians all over the world celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead on Easter Sunday.

for more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, sections 638 and following: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt1sect2chpt2art5p2.shtml

With love in Christ.

This is my personal meaning:
I cannot twist or deny what I believe that the birth, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is the reason for Easter. Without Him, there's no Easter week as they call it. I don't follow rituals either. Jesus Christ death and resurrection is done once and for all for us to be saved if we BELIEVE in Him.
The reason I follow Him because of his exceptional teachings, full of wisdom and truth if we do apply them in our lives and believe. I don't just remember him on Easter season but it is a lifestyle that someone has died for me to be saved from my sins and be healed from diseases by faith. I am a living testimony of Him for healing me many times when I was ill...I just believe and I am set free!!!
