The number one thing is learning how to read. A few students "got it" and could not tell us what it was but you could tell they understood how to really read and their marks showed it. It seemed like the teachers for the most part also did not "get it" at least as to how to teach it, but they recognized the results in your work if you were able to read really well. So it was frustrating seeing that some students really got something and everyone else was running around a few steps behind trying to figure out how they had "done it" after the fact so you could maybe "do it" in your work next time. Whatever it was I did not get in high school, when I reached university I had to learn how to read all over again from the first book below as my practical knowledge about how to read well was so deficient. If the teachers did not know how to teach it, but just recognized good reading in good work, I wished that someone had brought this book to my attention in high school or public school because this teaches it all, and the book was unheard of all throughout the public school system even in the library from the school librarian in their book reviews of useful books to read.

The second thing was all the other intangibles and interactions and communications and detailed speed notetaking that you have to make at college level could have been easier if I had known about and read a book like the one below but unfortunately no one ever told me about this book and probably except for the lucky ones who really "got it" everyone else was learning the things in this book by trial and error, failing in college, or being lucky enough to be referred to a remedial study skills class in college before the final exam results were known when it was already probably too late for a college education. This knowledge should not come so late in the game because students fail and drop out before they realize they need help or can get remediation because they are expected to operate at a higher thinking and communication level than was allowed or shown in high school. Lost potential is probably astounding everywhere from not knowing these things for school, work, and just living. I would never have seen this book below, if I had not looked up the other book that saved my higher education program by the same author, when I was answering a Mahalo Answers question. Well, never too late I guess.
