What do you use as your moral compass?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

My gut feeling. Pure instinct. There are many things in this world that are technically acceptable that my moral compass says are wrong. There are other things that aren't acceptable that I think should be.

I let my own morality guide my actions, without necessarily expecting the same from others.

I would imagine that my upbringing helped to mold my moral compass, but in general, the way I feel about 'right and wrong', 'good and bad' really comes from my Taoist philosophical beliefs. There is nothing good or bad, right or wrong - everything is somewhere in between, and how we perceive it and the effect it has on the world as a whole are individual and unique to perspective.

As my husband often says, "It is what it is..."

When it comes to my moral compass I'd probably say that its down to my conscience. If I know something is wrong then I have a hard time doing it.

If I had to apply any guiding principles it would probably come down to

1) Treat others as you want to be treated
2) Don't be a ****

Now if that means that I have to do the "right thing" and it makes my life harder, then thats tough for me but it makes the world a better place, and I think that there are more people keeping to those principles than not (even if they don't express them in that manner)

My moral compass would be my brain, specifically the cerebrum for I think this is the part where God communicates with me for this part governs conscience and feelings. Whenever I have done something wrong I won't feel good about it and I think my brain dictates that this is wrong. I believe that it is the voice of God speaking to me reminding me that what I am doing is wrong for me to be able to avoid doing it again. And that is my moral compass.

The karma principle. I try to keep a balance in the universe and remember how I would want to be treated by others. It's not always easy, and I often fail...but if I'm strictly listening to what my karmic compass tells me, then I always make sure to do good things for others, to rise above a bad situation, and to be the bigger person.

Like I said, I fail a lot.

In case I ever start to really question what I should be doing, one phrase really centers me and helps me focus on how to do right, and here it is:

Nice Matters.
