What do you think of my floating google search at http://www.putfree.com

I built this to save on scrolling whilst searching, suggestions and comments are greatly appreciated.
Tip for best answer: M$10.10
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I really like it!
this is actually something that I have been trying to find for a while, I used to use a bunch of different extensions for something like this.

My main suggestion (if possible, it may just be because I am on a netbook),
would be to make scrolling a little bit smoother, but that may be my browser or computer. It is fine as is, but there is just a millisecond of unresponsiveness on my computer

secondly, I don't know if they have custom searches for all of their categories (images, shopping, books, news etc.), but if you were to add support for those categories with the custom search, I would use it fairly often in my day to day activities.

I would also change the text from red to something a little soother and more calming to the eye, maybe a light blue or green, just a lighter color would really and completely make the website more appealing.

Overall I love the site and plan to visit it often!

Hey I just got two new ideas one of which would be easy and I'm not sure about the second one but here it goes:
Idea #1:
since it is a "floating" search engine, what if you changed the rectangle around the search box to something that conveys the idea of floating, like a cloud. I also like the idea since it is floating, not only around the page, but it is also "above the page, I do think that whatever object you have, has a shadow below it to really show this neat idea that it is a search engine literally hovering above the page
kind of like the one in the center of this image, but larger

Also, I had a very interesting idea, which I am not sure if it is possible:
What if, you had it so when you dragged the search bar over a given result, it could give options of what you wanted to do with it
like:
open in a new tab/window
shorten URL
digg it
tweet it
stumble it
other various forms of social networking
or give more information about the site (hits per month, rating, etc.)

I really like this idea because it would really let this website integrate with the rest of the social web and make it a really nice tool.
I have no programming experience (although I'm going to try to learn java soon) I don't know if it is possible, but would make the site really cool.

And on a lesser note: you can't drag the bar around in Opera 10.00 beta 3, not sure about other opera releases

Nice innovation ..It will be even awesome if you included drag option so that the user can drag and move the search bar where ever he wishes. This is my suggestion.

Great idea, just implemented.

It doesn't remember user placement right now but the core concept is there.

*resisting urge to add drop shadow*

Well there a lot more work needed, you can place more search engine tool bar from ask.com, stumbleupon, altavista, dogcrawler, bing, yahoo, other and turn it into the ultimate search website.

keep up the good work man, That a bright idea.

I'm pretty sure there are plenty of IE issues as that disgusting browser is hardly ever fired up by me.

This is a nice design, I would like to see you work to include different engines etc. There isn't a lot of spartan design on the web, allowing for lower powered devices, phones etc to speed up their interaction. Very good job.

Good, but you should particular search option like scholar, image, video, news, shopping, traveling, education etc.If you can put a web hosting and domain search. You also should use search option for manual search.

It is good, but you must remember one thing:
Almost all browsers have a search bar on the top right corner of the window, or simply integrated into the URL bar (google chrome).
BUT!!
This can be great for searching the content of one specific site, and hence still a great idea, cheers!

Looks and works great! Love how it's out of the way from being obtrusive of the main page's text and not all "WOW, Google Search is your your face, man!!" The light blue is a great calming color too.

Kudos!
