What do you think of the early press on Mahalo Answers?

You can see a bunch of press here:
http://www.techmeme.com/081215/p9#a081215p9

Including the first five stories below. What do you think of the coverage?

1. Jordan Golson / VentureBeat: Jason Calacanis' “Project A” is surprisingly compelling Mahalo Answers
2. Peter Kafka / MediaMemo: Jason Calacanis Rolls Out the New Mahalo: Yahoo Answers-killer
3. Rafe Needleman / Webware.com: Mahalo expands human-powered search with paid Answers service
4. Adam Ostrow / Mashable!: Mahalo Picks Up Where Google Answers Left Off
5. Erick Schonfeld, TechCrunch - Q: What Do You Get When You Add Karate Belts To a Q&A Service? Mahalo Answers.
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

The early press looks very promising. the best way to get anybody to do anything is to incentivise and you have hit that nail on the head.Even I answered a few questions and i just about use twitter once a day.

Fantastic! To answer the question posed by many, I think the "tip" system gives Mahalo Answers the needed edge over Yahoo, and I look forward to hearing its success!

Brilliant! Complete surprise as well. I love mahalo and wrote a little about my experiences on my blog

http://www.talkingfuture.com/2008/11/will-google-rule-search-forever.html

I think that Answers should get plenty of good exposure, it seems as though exposure to a wider public is what Mahalo needs.

Articles like that can only help to increase the number of users and make Mahalo a better place. Hopefully later today there will be plenty of mainstream coverage.

Looks like it is being well recieved as you would expect. A good write about it here too: http://www.inquisitr.com/12010/mahalo-answers-a-yahoo-answers-slayer/

I Seem to remember that Expert Exchange had something similar to the Tip jar, but don't know if they still have it. Your expertise at PR is of course going to help the adoption as well as this looking very good.

Nice touch to you Wii like characters! ;-) You and MS both!

I love this quote: "I can’t help but be impressed by Mahalo Answers. The idea that people would pay for answers isn’t as flawed as the Google Answers experiment would lead many to believe. You only have to look at many, many outsourcing sites to see that basic questions often have a money value, even quick responses at below $10. The service is slick, well thought out, and there is much to like."

I think the press reception itself is positive, obviously. Journalists buy into the idea that Mahalo Answers is a solid competitor to Yahoo Answers. But they seem to be ambivalent about its future and its ability to generate profit for Mahalo.

So honestly, I think that this is pretty favorable press for Mahalo. Depending on how much the word spreads, it will bring a lot of traffic and attention. In my opinion (and I have no clue about the demographic breakdown of your traffic), the real test will be how much it can pull in the people who are not tech savvy - the light web users who tend to patrol around a few favorite sites. And it's too early to tell if the vibrations from this positive reception will reach that far out.

I think that the comment about the Light Web users is a great point. I think as tech savy people, a lot of times we have no idea how the less tech savy will take on something. I think facebook just worked with the non-tech savy because it solved the problem it set out too. Didn't matter if the Tech was good or bad, it did the job. That is Jason and his teams challenge. Showing people why and how this solves there problems (so to speak).

I think that the press is a good thing. MA is a very innovative platform - I actually now have a reason to answer peoples' questions.

I bet this will spread like wildfire (Oh, that is not a good analogy for you folks in California.) and hit mainstream media hard. There is almost a challenge set down with Yahoo answers without directly saying so.

I think it's wonderful, I wonder if it will live to the hype though.

I think it's mostly positive and looks like its the perfect way to continue improving search. The tech journalism group is at a consensus, but I'd still like to see what the rest of the public thinks. The pre-announcements were pretty good, but after the initial post on twitter and email blasts, much of the news has been repetitive and up until yesterday I didn't really understand it.

My view is Yes, please. I liked Mashable's best. Liked the comparison to Google news. I know this won't be chosen as best answer, but I figured the best way to remember to sign up was to do it right now.

PS- I'm more interested in what the reaction will be on Twitter, in light of the two "Tweetoversial" incidents this past week or so.
