What do you think of the college football playoff format I have outlined? Take the top 8 in the BCS standings and have 1 play 8, 2 play
7 and so on like the NBA or NHL playoffs. The Fiesta Bowl and Orange Bowl would host final four games, the Rose Bowl would host the national championship game. The final eight games would be the other top bowl games such as the Sugar Bowl and Cotton Bowl. I seriously think it's time for a playoff. Any thoughts?

I don’t think this eight game playoff scenario is a bad start, but I don’t think it goes nearly far enough. I think it really is time for a playoff, and I think most college presidents would agree if they could be assured that having a playoff system would assure them that money would roll in the way it has in the bowl system.
In the end, the bowl system is all about the fact that if your team makes a bowl you are getting both actual cash and name recognition by playing in a bowl game that is being nationally televised. If you were to have an eight game playoff system, and then allow the other teams to play in a bowl, interest in those bowls would slip quite a bit in my opinion. I think any playoff system needs to include 32 teams, with conference champions (even the Sun Belt and WAC getting automatic bids. This way you have a true playoff and the importance of the BCS is wipe out completely.
