What do you think of professional gaming?

Legitimate sport and profession, or legitimate joke?
Tip for best answer: M$2.00

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Well, the market has spoken, I guess. If it makes money, then it counts, even if it's entirely unathletic. There is at least a good sense of teamwork necessary, most of the time. At least in the United States, that won't likely ever be a big enough deal that kids could realistically aspire to being part of it, but I suspect it will exist in some form for a while.

It has to be legitimate since basically the U.S. has professionals doing it in all sorts of things, military, and of course, it raises the level of technology i think. South Korea is a prime example where they actually play video games on sponsored teams and the country is very wired. They too have started military games, not to mention all types of skills are developed just by participation. Now Poker is indeed a sport now no different than bass fishing. The level of money has went up tremendously so when you have people making a career out of these things, how can one argue with success.

I think it's no big deal, if you enjoy doing something you're good at, go for it.

I'd just advise anyone who wanted to do this to have a backup plan, in case either you don't turn out to be a top player, and for when your reflexes and coordination start to dribble away with age.

Def. legitimate profession. It's as much of a sport as NASCAR and golf. I don't count either as a sport; they are just skill games.

It's about as much of a sport as Professional Poker.

That said, those folks have some serious skills. Why not let them show off their stuff? If it provides entertainment for players and viewers, it's fine with me.

I believe it's a real skill to be a professional at playing video games. There is plenty of demand for this, and people who like to call in the hotlines at Nintendo for gaming tips, just because they get stuck at a certain part of a game. I know, from experience, when I used to be heavily involved in playing video games, that I really found it helpful that there were experts who could answer questions like how to defeat the dragon, etc.

I believe professional gaming can be as serious as any professional sport. There are plenty of gamers who take it seriously as well, even though it's just a game.

That's okay, Halo sucks anyway.

1. Really? Still using Tiplines? Why not use, I don't know, Mahalo walkthroughs?
2. Professional gaming doesn't have a lot to do with people who write walkthroughs like me anyway. It's more about people who look like they spent half their lives in a frat finding little glitches in Halo maps that help them jump around and shoot people.

How are you using logic to come to a conclusion that is entirely based in emotion?

No, jeez, that's not offensive to anyone who disagrees with you. No offense that I think you're sad for being totally misinformed and willing to catagorize a group of people you know nothing about.
