Simon Cowell *is* American Idol, in my opinion. Period. Paula Abdul leaving was a bit unfortunate, but by the time she left, it was pretty clear she wasn't contributing anything to the judging, and I haven't missed her. And Randy Jackson, Kara DioGuardi and Ellen DeGeneres just aren't as iconic -- especially not Kara and Ellen, since they're new. This isn't a slight against them -- I'm the only person on the Internet who thinks Kara is awesome -- but it's just fact. Someone who grew up with the show is going to be more associated with it.
And Howard Stern? Total jackass! At least with Simon, there was a pretty solid foundation of knowing what he's talking about. Howard Stern is just out to shock people. And for a supposedly family-friendly show like Idol, this will just be a disaster. Sure, he *might* clean up his act Ozzy Osbourne-style, but even that will -- and should, in my opinion -- be a failure.
It was coming, in my opinion. All shows have to come to an end sometime.
