What do you think of David Bowie as an actor?

I quite like The Man Who Fell to Earth, he was tailormade for that role.

I think he's great. His role as the Goblin King in Labyrinth also seemed to be a perfect role for him. He was also great as Tesla in The Prestige. He really showed off his talents as an actor rather than just a personality in that film.

As a Bowie fan, I've seen just about every film in which he's acted and I think he does very well. He has always chosen a wide variety of roles to challenge himself: Goblin King in Labyrinth, Austrian inventor in the Prestige, scheming bartender in the Linguini Incident, rapidly aging vampire in the Hunger, space alien in The Man Who Fell to Earth, the list goes on. I believe he's played all of his roles believably. Most would agree he did an outstanding job in his comic role putting down Ricky Gervais on Extras. In the extended version of the Blue Jean music video he played both a nerdy, uncharismatic "regular guy" and a preeminent performer named Screamin' Lord Byron, which showed some range. Probably his best work as a actor was in the Elephant Man on Broadway. Theatre critics who are typically harsh gave him very positive reviews.
