what do you think is the best online, non role-playing, game?
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Currently, I would still go for Modern Warfare 2, simply because of the completeness of its multiplayer. You have already most likely explored this option, as this is the favorite game of everyone on earth.
Alternative: Bad Company 2
These are 'more interesting' choices, in my opinion:
Sins of a Solar Empire - Still one of the best space strategy games. Does have fairly cool online support
Command and Conquer 4, Supreme Commander 2, AND Starcraft 2 are coming soon. Consider these strategy titles! All of them are highly anticipated, and Starcraft's battle.net presence will likely rival WoW's in the first stretch.
Dawn of War 2 recently got a Chaos expansion. This might provide for compelling multiplayer.
Last but not least: TF2 and the Left for Dead series. Both quality, social, multiplayer games.

Civ 4 (and the forthcoming Civ 5) aren't particularly violent, and have strategic multiplayer.
Erepublik is social, diplomatic, and time consuming. It seems very compelling though, for members in important positions
what about any that are not war games or non-violent games? Not childrens games, but non violent games geared towards adults?
