What do you think is going to happen to YouTube's popularity on July 15?

As you all know, on July 15, YouTube is switching to the new "beta" channel design (universally hated) as the mandatory layout.
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Actually, on the date July 15, I think there will be many more users on the site because they will want to experience the new layout for themselves. After that, I am not sure of what will happen. Maybe it will be better liked than everyone expects, or maybe it will be "universally hated" just as you said. However, Youtube will remain very popular, no matter what, especially in America. It is now so embedded into our culture that it would be very difficult to picture a large number of people completely giving it up. It is a genius website, and more likely than not, people will adapt to the new layout.

I haven't seen the new layout personally, but I guess if it is "universally hated" as you say, then traffic may drop very slightly.

More likely, it will have no impact whatsoever - most users don't even use channels (they just search for individual videos and 'watch related'), and people have a remarkable tendency to adapt to interfaces they hate - everytime Facebook adjusts anything, millions of users complain, then get accustomed to it, and forget they ever hated it.

If you want a better interface to YouTube, check out http://www.youtubeapp.com - its a web-based, iTunes-like interface to YouTube.

Here is an interesting video I watched about the new layout. My channel has yet to be switched but I have seen others with the new layout and agree.. I hate it. I've been using YouTube since shortly after they started and I am concerned with the directly they are going.

I think it will drop a bit because a lot of people do not like change, but when they get used to it, it will bounce back. I remember when Facebook changed it's layout a few months ago a lot of people wanted it changed back, but now people are fine with it.

I agree, people don't like change, but over time they will get used to it.

If the new UI truly is "universally hated" there may be a slight drop in "popularity" for a few days but this will be compensated for by the outcry from the Internet to change the layout.

The power in YouTube isn't in it's design or even functionality, it's in the distribution. YouTube continues to be the easiest "tube" site to embed and distribute video online. This, combined with the fact that YouTube already has a very significant distribution of it's player and embedded videos online means that they can confidently make changes while at worst, only loosing a calculated percentage of "popularity".

Hmmm, no, I didn't know, and how can it be universally hated if it hasn't been released yet?
