What do you think "faith" is?

Tip for best answer: M$0.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Faith is reasoned trust in the claims of another. You use reason and intuition to identify trustworthy sources of information that you consider smarter than yourself, and you begin to believe and ACT in accordance with their teachings, not waiting for reason to catch up on the things you can not yet verify.

No problem, I'm a newb here too ;). You could always support a help ticket and ask them how you can edit the rating if you like. Not sure. Thanks for choosing my answer!

Ack, sorry, I didn't see the rating stars until after I'd hit submit. :'(

Doh, I meant 'submit' a help ticket, not 'support' %X

Faith is a belief in something that you can't necessarily prove, but in your heart, you know it's true.

I personally think faith is a very strong belief in something. whether its fact or fiction.

ive used the word Faith in a long distance relationship. "have faith in us, my love" and its been 6 yrs apart, weve only been physically together for 2 days. FOR 2 DAYS! and now, our love has grown stronger and unbreakable.

Faith is belief in the unseen. To have faith is to not doubt the existence of something. If that something was seen then it would be fact, not faith.

Faith is sometimes defined as "hope" in things that we cannot see but believe in. It can also be an "expectation". When we have faith in things that eal with God, we can "expect" that God will follow through on his end of the bargain. Faith must also be in principles that are true. Faith in false things will be of no benefit.

When we have faith in God, it becomes a motivator or force in our lives. If we had no faith there would be no expectation of the results therefore no action would be taken.

The light switch analogy is a good one. The reason we reach for a light switch is because we hope and expect that the light will come on when we do. If we doubted, we probably wouldn't even try the switch at all. This also means that faith requires action on our part, or as some say "works".

Hm, but with a light, our faith that it will come on is based on past experience - when we've flicked the switch in the past, the light has come on, with certain exceptions that we understand.

So if faith in God is like that, where is the light coming on that follows the flicking of the switch?
