What do you think about the possibility of Google acquiring twitter?
I saw this coming when they stopped doing anything with Jaiku (Jason asked a question about Jaiku in the past: http://tinyurl.com/d9l4xd ) What good/bad do you see coming out of this potential acquisition?

Google is gathering alot of cash.
Schmidt said, "Google will be ready to make a deal (with Twitter) when the price is right"
What value does Twitter value their company?

From the past history it is clear Google is surely looking to Twitter.
However the interview with Eric Schmidt (CEO, Google) contradicts the acquisition in near future as the company's CEO says it probably won't happen anytime. And Google has not acquired any company since September 12 2008. The last acquisition being TNC (Tatter and Company) Weblog software on September 12, 2008 (Textcube.com).
In an interview with Charlie Rose, Eric Schmidt said: "I shouldn't talk about specific acquisitions. We're unlikely to buy anything in the short term, partly because I think prices are still high. And it's unfortunate I think we're in the middle of a cycle. Google is generating a lot of cash. And so we keep that cash in extremely secure banks."

M$However, if Google were to integrate Twitter into their own services, it could facilitate a massive 'dumbing down' of the service - thousands of users having it thrown at them without actually knowing what Twitter can be used for. Although, it could be argued this is already happening!

M$Google trends - amped up with real time trends from twitter
Google News - real time feeds from action as it happens
froogle - reviews about products based on customer tweets
Blogs and tweets could merge to build an ayschronous as well as a synchronous thoughts broadcast
and of course Google search...
It will add a whole new dimension to Google
my own thoughts

M$The downside is that they may become more like Microsoft, uncaring, uninterested in the end user and using bloated systems. Just think, they could hire Balmer away from Microsoft.

M$All the possibility of Google acquiring Twitter says to me is that Identica seems to be the more sustainable way for the future.

1. Twitter's last round of financing valuation, around $250 million
2. Sources say CEO Evan Williams wouldn't sell even for $1 billion
Why does William think Twitter is worth more than $250 million?
