The NHS in Britain isn't perfect, but frankly without it I'd have been dead a long time ago as I've had some serious conditions and could not have afforded private insurance.
I do think the Obama proposals seem a strange way to go about it, easier to just raise taxes for all and provide coverage for all - if the rich want to take out improved private insurance so be it. But again, this is an another area where Europe and the US differ so much, as your media seems to brand any sort of socialism as communist and evil.

@dragonspaw, in the US, doctors treat first and bill later. You would not have been denied care. You'll notice we have stories of insurance companies refusing to cover things, but not doctors refusing to treat. When I needed major surgery that cost thousands out of pocket, no one asked me if I could pay. We are treated first here.
we are a bizarre country and most people here cannot be bothered to check on what is actually going on or being said. we get our news and information from sound bites and you are "CONservative" you listen to what is being said on "Fox News" I would hope that the democrats, Which I am not one of. keep track of what the Republicans are saying and remind the voters next year.
