What do you think about Mahalo's Business Model?

Tip for best answer: M$0.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I think the model will work once more people know about it. If I had an urgent question I would pay M$ just to not have to look up the answer myself even though I know I can find it with some work.

The point is that not only are there an infinite number of questions that can be asked, but we may end up seeing the same or similar questions in the future. I don't think this is a bad thing if someone wants to pay and someone else doesn't mind digging up the answer to the first question.

I find it interesting as long as they keep their costs down. If you can run a site like Mahalo efficiently on a cloud (EC2, GoGrid, etc.) without a huge capital expense and keep your operating costs low by using crowd sourcing, then this may be a nice business.

I don't see this like the next multi-billion Google-like business model alone, but may be huge as part of a larger group of similar services.

There's a business model?

Seriously... Jason C seems to want to take risks... intelligent risks, and that's a company I would want to stand behind.

It'll keep working as long as you keep traffic coming. I am a member of a site that has an idea pretty different from this one, but with a similar concept of paying people for answers. They've run out of people who are willing to pay for answers. Granted, their questions cost a lot more, so this might be farther in the future for you. But you need either steady new traffic or just massive traffic to maintain the model.

I am not sure what their business model is, I just know they make some commission here and there
