What do you feel about the current state of the classic rock band KISS?
They are about ready to release a new 11-song album package exclusively at Walmart that also includes a 15-song collection of re-recorded classic KISS songs and a live DVD, all for the price of a single CD.
Which sounds great...but the 15 songs were re-recorded exactly like the original songs, nothing new added, they just re-recorded them so they could profit from selling the new tunes instead of Universal, who owns the original songs.
And, of course, the current band lineup includes Eric Singer on drums and Tommy Thayer on guitar, each wearing the classic stage costumes and makeup of original members Peter Criss and Ace Frehley. Some people consider them impostors, others say that as much as they love Ace and Peter, the new guys are just better players.
And then there's the KISS Kondoms, the KISS Koffins ("We get them coming and going" says KISS bassist and merch maven Gene Simmons) and all the other myriad of crazy KISS merchandise.
I'm sure a lot of folks have written off KISS long ago, but I still hold a special place for them in my rocker's heart...but I can't decide if I'm bummed, or HOW bummed I am, about the current state of the band.
