I'm someone who is physically injured pretty much permanently, so I actually have quite a bit of experience with this one.

Several years back, at a restaurant job I had, I was putting up the specials on the big lighted sign outside and I slipped and fell, nailing my back (with all the force of my own considerable weight adding to the impact) on a giant wooden planter. My back's always been bad my whole life, but this incident made it much worse, and back pain is, lamentably, just another part of my day now.

I have found that outlook plays a huge part in how physical injuries heal. A person's body is made up of many different kinds of energies, and those energies interact with the physical world in a complimentary manner. A person's injuries seem to hurt more when they're agitated, angry, frustrated, or sad. Perception gives shape to reality, as evidenced by those who somehow are able to lift a city bus or walk on hot coals barefoot, and perception can be key in overcoming pain, when one has very little else to help heal them.

I would take my minds off my pain by sleeping or if I can't sleep, I would play computer games. Usually when I'm playing, I'm so engrossed that I don't think of anything else. I would also rent a lot of serial DVDs to help me pass the time and to take my mind of things. Meditation will make the pain more accute because I dont have any distraction. But I'll welcome soothing and relaxing music. when we are relaxed, we'd feel better.

If the pain is so severe, I'd ask for painkillers from the doctor and sleep. For me, the way to make me cope is by not thinking about it too much. When I over-think something, I tend to become depressed.

I engage in breathing exercises and meditation. Doing this allows me to distance myself from the pain.

I usually imagine myself without any injury, sitting on a beach and relaxing. This helps ease the pain or at very least put me in a better mood.

Sometimes I "enchant" a cup of tea and associate it with pain dampening properties.

The other thing I do is play video games, which have been shown to provide chronic pain relief.

I am a totally pain in the @ss. I hate being sick or injured, so I usually complain a lot. I am always intent on being independent, but I'll complain the whole way.

I don't dream of being injured physically because I feel I can't stand the pain if I am. It should be left to the doctor's care.
