What do you consider "walking distance"? Less than a mile? A couple miles? More?

Depends on the day and the weather. Right now my car is out of walking distance in the driveway because we have a snow storm that I am not about to go prancing about in.

On a nice sunny day where I'm in a great mood and feel up to walking I don't mind a couple miles.

On an average day half a mile is acceptable.

If I'm out shopping and there's a strip along streets stretching 3 or 4 miles I'm comfortable with that because I can go inside a shop and look around and then walk to the next one. A few miles seem like nothing when you're enjoying your day.

My opinion would be if it's a nice day I would walk up to a mile. Everything I need is less than a mile a way so I never have to walk any farther than that. If it's for recreation like a trip to a park or zoo then I will walk all day long. :)

10 miles or less. I could be swayed because well, things are further spaced in Alaska. Close by isn't the same thing here as it is in some places. In the summer I'd say anything within 10 miles is walkable, in the winter however I'd limit it to a mile. It's just too cold otherwise.

Some of us on weekends used to walk from our house in Brooklyn to Madison Square Garden in Manhattan and back, it's about seven miles each way. So I guess it's what your walking for.

"Walking distance" usually means 10-15 minutes walk at the very max, which for most people is half a mile to a mile. The expression is commonly used for example to say: "Our office is in walking distance of the railway station". That doesn't mean it's a three hour trek, it means you won't need to bother taking a cab or looking for a bus, you can walk there in next to no time.

As for how far I could walk, well I can probably walk 10-12 miles at a stretch. But if you advised me that you were within walking distance and I had to walk 12 miles I wouldn't be best pleased. :)

I know this may be odd, but I don't particularly like walking outdoors at all. More than a block or two and I'll drive. That being said, I can walk extremely long distances through shopping malls, airports, etc. I probably walk several times farther indoors than I would ever consider walking outside from point A to point B.

I can walk for miles on the beach or at the zoo. So if I have something beautiful to look at, I am more energetic.
