What do you call the ???? Gulf?
I find this BBC headline rather ironic:
"Islamic Solidarity Games cancelled over Gulf dispute"
"The Islamic Solidarity Games, due to be held in Iran in April, have been called off because of a dispute with Arab countries over what to call the Gulf."
Apparently the Iranians call it the Persian Gulf and the Arabs call it the Arabian Gulf. I'm far from a pal of Iran; but, I've always called it the Persian Gulf. How about you?
--sources and reasoning are more convincing than plain opinions--

Historically and internationally it's been known as the Persian Gulf, only the Arabian states refer to it as the Arabian Gulf, and only since the 1960s I think.
