My grandmother has tardive dyskinesia due to Reglan which is a dopamine receptor antagonist. The blockage of the dopamine receptors causes involuntary tics and movements. When researching how to ease her tics and spasms, I discovered information about the link between tardive dyskinesia and Parkinson's symptoms as side effects to drugs other than Reglan, like antipsychotic drugs, all related to dopamine blockage. When Grandma first started exhibiting symptoms, it seemed to be Parkinson's-like, for example, her head would wobble like Katherine Hepburn's did. I researched Parkinson's and discovered that it was caused by low dopamine levels and was commonly treated with Levadopa, which is converted into dopamine in the body.

It was just a fluke that I knew it, but I spent untold hours trying to find an answer for Grandma. Her doctor prescribed Reglan (it didn't help anyway) because she was constantly nauseous for several years, probably due to the antibiotic prescriptions (for 40 years) for bladder infections which we discovered very late in the game were likely caused by kidney issues. Now she lays in bed all day with tics, spasms and involuntary jaw movement. All because of a blocked little neurotransmitter called dopamine.

Hint: all of the conditions mentioned above have one neurotransmitter in common.
