Alcatraz Island and the notorious former federal penitentiary - part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area -are managed by the National Park Service. Although there is currently no entrance fee to visit Alcatraz Island, there is a charge for the ferry service. The ferry is operated by Alcatraz Cruises - an authorized Concessioner of the National Park Service - and tickets are available up to 90 days in advance of your visit.
The standard tour price includes the cell house audio tour - available in English, German, French, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin and Dutch - and the tour will take approximately 2.5 hours. The night tour also includes onboard narration and a guided tour of Alcatraz. All tours depart from the Hornblower Alcatraz Landing on Pier 33.
• The first day tour departs at 9.10am and the last day tour returns at 4.25pm
• The night tour departs at 4.20pm and returns at 7.20pm
• The 5.5 hour tour of Alcatraz and Angel Island departs at 9.30am
Ticket prices range from $26-$58 per person, though the best deal for families is the $79 Family Ticket. This covers two adults and two children (ages 5-11), but this ticket can only be booked by telephone or at the ticket booth. All other tickets can be booked online at: http://www.alcatrazcruises.com/website/buy-tickets.aspx. To ensure a place on a tour you should purchase your ticket at least a week in advance of your visit.
