What diet has the lowest failure rate?
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

The caveat here is that in Atkins, it's necessary to go through a series of stages until you reach the lifetime maintenance stage. That stage is unique for each person, because by following the program through the earlier stages you find out what you can eat, what you can't, what things you can have once in awhile and what things are triggers for you. Some things you may have at certain times (like me only able to have caffeine in the morning).
Unfortunately most studies have only looked at the initial, 2-week stage of Atkins without looking at the latter stage, particularly the last. The last is not a whole lot different from other healthy lifestyle ways of eating, except that it is personalized--something others usually aren't.
I've included a couple of links below to articles that reference studies that were more long-term.

And I've had to follow a low-carb lifestyle for about 5 years. When I don't, I'm back to my previous state of ill-health.

M$Weight Watchers follows this pattern pretty well, but other methods work also.

M$Good source.
Clicking through to the feature about dieting is probably the most reliable info that can be found. Though the article notes that even that data is not very good!
The conclusion of that article is:
"The take-home message from all of these conflicting studies, according to Dr. Ed Saltzman, Medical Director of the Obesity Consult Center at Tufts-New England Medical Center, is that "Diets don't fail - people do. That's because there are multiple and powerful systems (within the body and the mind, and in the environment) that contribute to food intake and body weight. For many - if not most - people, it is unreasonable to assume that the composition of the diet alone can overpower those other systems in the long term. Hence, there is a real need for dietary, behavioral, emotional, spiritual, and environmental components to obesity treatment."

The percentage of people sticking to all the major diets is about 2%. That is to say, 98% of dieters do not stick to the diet.
That said, I see no reason not to boost my favorite but lesser known choice. To the best of my knowledge no one has ever read this diet book, adopted it, and then failed to continue with it.
It is available direct from beerlylegible and also from Amazon.com

M$There are many diet plans, books & seminars that can be purchase that promise great success. but it appears that the best way to weight loss comes down to reducing extra calories from food and beverages and increasing calories burned through physical activity. Something doctors have been saying for years.
Increasing metabolism is an extra added boost to maintaining and losing weight. one of the best way to increase metabolism besides activity is by increasing muscle mass through weight training.
Ever wonder why a lot of men seem to not gain weight as fast as women. They have more muscle mass so their metabolism works at a higher rate. They burn more calories sitting watching TV then women do.
This doesn't mean that women have to be body builders with massive muscles but it means not being flabby and being tone.
What is all comes down to is what a lot of experts say lifestyle change
Eating healthy (Fruits and veggies) and getting active is the best diet.
