What did you think of Chase Utley's performance in the World Series, tying Reggie Jackson's record?

Tip for best answer: M$0.25

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

In the fall of 1977, I was stuck at home with a sprained ankle. With only a few channels even on the cable, I tuned my tiny black-and-white screen TV to the World Series out of boredom. By the end of Game 6, I was a die-hard Yankees fan, and I have never missed a World Series since. I think it was a combination of factors that made Reggie's performance in that series so unforgettable: Reggie's flamboyant personality; the legendary Yankees at legendary Yankee Stadium; the Yankees won the World Series by winning that game. In addition, Jackson acquired the nickname "Mr. October."

Utley did a fantastic job tying Jackson's record. But: Utley didn't have the presence on the field Jackson had; Utley tied an existing record rather than breaking a record; and the Phillies did not win the World Series. It was a remarkable achievement to tie such a long-held record of a baseball great -- it just wasn't as exciting as Reggie's performance.

I thought that it was fantastic Chase Utley has always been one of the most underrated players in MLB, living in the shadows of Ryan Howard, he is one of the nicest guys in the world and a very educated person himself. Too bad the Phillies lost or else he surely would have had the MVP and a legendary performance.

I agree with you about Utley. He's underrated because he's not flashy or arrogant and doesn't comman the spotlight. He rarely talks about himself.
