What did you think about Steve Ballmer, "Is Bing the Thing"?

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970203431004574197272340943400.html

Ballmer says Microsoft strength is in selling Windows Operating systems for the 300 million PC units sold a year. Ballmer says the Smart phone is in its infancy, but sees a potential of 500 million windows mobile devices in the future.

Netbooks will be big. I was surprise Ballmer did talk about Data services segment, one of the profitable sections of Microsoft in the last earnings report. What do you think is Microsofts trend?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

I think Microsoft will keep on keeping on. I don't think we will see any big changes. I think Bing is a joke. I think it's mostly a rebranding to hook some people who already pasted on live search.

I think it's funny that he thinks there is even a chance for them to break into the smart phone market. Windows mobile devices are just about worthless. I try them every so often but they are so slow and sluggish. I think somebody tried to simply port windows to a smaller device which doesn't work.

I think Windows 7 could be a big hit. The marking for it is simply brilliant. They never before allowed free version for basically everybody to test. I think this may be a big boon for them.

Just my opinion.

Good Luck!

I hate porn. It is evil. It destroys families. It increase crime. It demoralizes woman and men. It is a evil religion. It is addictive.

I don't like the name. What was wrong with Live? Though I guess it would have been harder to re-invent that brand, than create a new one.

This is definitely a step in the right direction by Microsoft. They've got to at least attempt to take on Google, and if they continue to churn out products such as Bing - all will be well for them.

Bing is good at search, but not great. Google is better. However, Bing excels at guiding how you search. The panel down the left hand side is very useful for narrowing the topic which you're searching for.

For the term "football," Google pulled up 380000000 pages, and Microsoft just 154000000. I know that the size of the index has got nothing to do with how good a search engine is, but it helps. Both bring up similar listings, so no difference in quality really.

It will take time for Bing to "be good," but it has potential.

Windows 7 is going to be a winner - it has to be. It's what Vista should have been, and I'll be unhappy at having to payout for another operating system, after shelling out money for Vista Ultimate.

There's one thing that I can't understand about Microsoft, and that's why aren't they making a switch to cloud-based services more quickly? That's where they can really take on Google, and win. I know there's an Office online here, or else coming, but why don't they push it more? They can then use there success with Office to help Bing, and other online products grow.

Bing has good features and a good layout, but the search results (the reason for the whole thing) are kind of hit-or-miss. A lot of the search results are old, and there can be a lot of porn if you're not careful. Although, if that's what you want I guess the amount of porn could be considered a plus.
